Athens
- Places for Your Pooch to Play
Fenced-in
dog runs at Sandy Creek Park off Commerce Road in north Athens is
one option. Also, there is the off-leash area off the hiking trails
behind the Univ. of Georgia's intramural fields on College Station
Road. At the College Station Road facility (UGA), the hiking and
bike trails lead you right to the off-leash area. The pond is marked
as a "for dog's" play and exercise area. Your pal is welcome to
swim and play unfettered in this area. You may unleash your dog
when the trail-marking signs say you can, and then only.
The Sandy Creek
dog runs charge $1.00 per dog, and $1.00 an hour, plus $1.00 per
each adult to get into the park. Three huge dog yards there and
each one completely enclosed by a fence. You may make reservations
by calling Athens-Clarke Leisure Services Department (706) 613-3631.
There is also a $2.00 key deposit but you get it back when you
leave.
All dogs in Athens-Clarke
County must be on a leash except when in these immediate areas.
And remember, if
your pal poops - scoop.
